[Laughter]
Maxie: You have four messages. Three from Milan and one from New York.
Kate: Tell me, Maxie, what do you think of the handbag layout?
Maxie: Well, the colors were all wrong. I mean, maroon for spring and a plaid handbag -- who would be caught dead? And I knew orange was hot, but page after page -- way too much of a good thing.
Kate: What you might be trying to say is that the spread lacks focus, originality, and a point of view, especially in the way of color.
Maxie: Giselle seemed like she couldn't make up her mind whether she wanted to go with shiny nighttime bags or something you would carry to dinner or take to work.
Kate: In other words, one might wonder if Giselle is up to the task of editing "Couture."
Maxie: Oh, she's not. The issues have been going downhill since she took over.
Kate: Get Neela Llorente's person, and put them on speaker.
Maxie: Certainly.
Jax: Thanks for letting me sit in on this.
Kate: Thank you for respecting my need to run the show.
Maxie: I have Kate Howard for Ms. Llorente.
Kate: Maxie, sometime today, please.
Maxie: Coral Barnes, Neela's marketing director is holding on three.
Kate: Ms. Barnes, Kate Howard. I can't tell you how excited I am to launch my premiere issue with Neela's new line.
Coral: I am afraid there's been a misunderstanding.
Kate: Well, that's unfortunate.
Coral: We're seriously considering giving the exclusive to Giselle at "Couture."
Kate: I see. When did this come about? I spoke to Neela yesterday, and she was excited about me building my entire first issue around her new youth line.
Coral: "Couture" has a guaranteed circulation that's very attractive.
Jax: Unfortunately, if you breach your contract with "Crimson," we will kill the layout at "Couture," and you will have no press at all.
Johnny: What Lulu does with her life is her business.
Carly: yeah, you didn't follow her here?
Johnny: No, I came to check on Michael. How's he doing?
Carly: He's better. I appreciate you asking. Thank you for pulling him out of the cannery after the explosion.
Johnny: He was very worried about you.
Carly: Well, as you can see, I am fine.
Johnny: Michael made it a point to let me know how much he didn't trust me. He was acting like his father, like he was part of the business. Tell him not to go down that road. That there are other ways to live his life.
Carly: I can assure you that Michael will have nothing to do with his father's business.
Johnny: Well, he's very lucky to have a mother like you.
Carly: Ok, he's weird, and he has it bad for you.
Lulu: He came here to see Michael.
Carly: Who are you kidding? He came here to see you, and you know it.
Max: Jason, hey.
Jason: I need another surgery on my hands.
Sonny: How soon?
Jason: Doctors say right away.
Sonny: Well, then you are going to have to do it.
Jason: Oh, I don't know, Sonny. Trevor owns the piers now. We don't even know how that is going to affect the truce. And then I saw Claudia last night in the hospital, and she told me if I would kill Trevor, the Zaccharas would not retaliate.
Sonny: Why didn't you tell me?
Jason: Well, I wasn't going to do it. I wasn't even sure that she wanted me to do it until she showed up at my place about an hour ago with a gun and a silencer and information when Trevor would be vulnerable.
Sonny: Claudia's had a busy day. She went over to Kate's this morning, throwing it in her face, again, that I slept with her. Here's what I'm thinking. I'm thinking that Claudia went to hurt Kate to get back at me for what I did to Johnny. And I think she is setting you up to go after Trevor for the same reason.
Jason: Ok. Whatever Claudia has against Trevor --
Sonny: Mm-hmm?
Jason: This is definitely personal.
Sonny: She's a liar and user. There's no need to look any further than that. Before she let Italy, she researched me, ok? Came on to me, knowing who I was. Now, I know what you're thinking. Don't, you know -- I should have picked up on it. But I was going through everything with Kate, ok? I didn't give a damn. I thought that I lost the woman of my life. So I see this -- this tramp at the end of the bar. So why not take advantage of the situation? I didn't know she was Johnny Zacchara's sister. I didn't know she would be following me. But what I am trying to figure out is she -- does she have an agenda or is she crazy? I'm thinking both.
Jason: I don't know. I mean, what do you think? You know, this afternoon --
Sonny: Yeah?
Jason: She really didn't seem crazy to me. She didn't seem crazy. She didn't seem like she had --
Sonny: What do you mean?
Jason: She didn't seem like she had an agenda. She wants Trevor dead. That's what she wants.
Sonny: I've wanted him dead for months. You know that. Ok, if he -- if he's stabilizes the Zaccharas, it can work to out advantage.
Jason: Wait, you think that they are going to be too busy fighting each other instead of fighting us.
Sonny: Divide and conquer is an effective strategy. I mean, you know, it almost worked against us.
Claudia: Sonny's in the way. He needs to be taken care of. Now, if it's traced back to my family in any way, the whole town will explode.
Ian: Why is this my problem?
Claudia: Because Sonny's in your way, too. You're not going to be able to ship anything while he is deliberately slowing everything down. There's suppose to be a truce between our families, but it's just a way for him to rally his forces.
Jerry: Hello. I seem to be interrupting.
Ian: No, not at all. I wanted the two of you to meet. If this deal's going to run efficiently, I want to be clear on all the parties involved.
Jerry: In that case, Jerry Jacks.
Claudia: Claudia Zacchara. Why is he here?
Jerry: Ms. Zacchara clearly doesn't like surprises. Neither do I.
Ian: Jerry and I are collaborating on that shipment we discussed.
Claudia: He's your partner?
Jerry: Oh, you didn't tell her? That wasn't very sporting of you.
Claudia: And I don't work with strangers.
Jerry: Wise policy indeed.
Ian: Jerry will prove himself, don't you worry. Because if Sonny Corinthos is to die, Jerry is the perfect man to kill him.
Kate: The person you were just speaking to is Jasper Jacks, my primary investor.
Coral: The corporate raider?
Jax: Yes, that would be the one.
Kate: He has no formal input on this negotiation.
Jax: Until "Crimson" is up and running, I intend to use my resources to protect the magazine. I'm sure this misunderstanding is clearly a breech of contract.
Coral: There generally aren't written contracts for this sort of thing.
Kate: Well, that's what I've been trying to tell him.
Jax: Well, then, I'm sure the verbal contract between Kate and Neela will hold.
Coral: I doubt that it would stand up in court.
Jax: Ms. Burns, what I'm trying to say is that I have the time and resources to find out.
Kate: Jax, please.
Jax: Don't fight me on this, ok? Once I start legal proceedings, this spread will never see the light of day, ok? At least until the case is over. But by then the entire line will be out of date.
Kate: May I suggest a compromise?
Jax: Why would you want a compromise? These people have already shown bad faith. I say we move on and we launch the magazine with, uh --
Maxie: [Whispering] Maha Chang.
Jax: Maha Chang.
Kate: Jax, please, this is my magazine. Coral, as you may well know, Giselle made a mess of the spring handbag layout. I'm sure the entire editorial staff is screaming for a do-over.
Jax: But Kate, that's not your problem.
Kate: Well, I'm known Giselle for years, Jax, and I might consider letting her show Neela's handbags and accessories in "Couture," and then I could show Neela's shoes and her new spring line.
Coral: I don't know. That's never been done before.
Jax: I think it's a brilliant solution -- undeserved, brilliant. It gives you your employer the media coverage they want and prevents a long and expensive lawsuit. You should be thanking Ms. Howard for even considering it.
Kate: Oh, but of course, this assumes that "Crimson" will have a two-week jump on "Couture." So, Ms. Barnes, do we have a deal?
Carly: You do not have to worry about Johnny caring. The guy is obviously following you.
Lulu: Why did you tell him I was looking for a job?
Carly: Because I thought you might want his opinion. You have to start focusing on something because you're going to be chasing after him in about two days.
Lulu: I told you I ended things with him
Carly: Yeah, whatever. Look, I have to call Jax. Why don't I tell him to talk to Kate?
Lulu: Don't.
Carly: Are you sure?
[Carly dials]
[Telephone rings]
Kate: The two-week jump is not negotiable, and I need an answer now. I've already wasted enough time on this.
Maxie: Jasper Jacks' line, how can I help you?
Carly: Who is this?
Maxie: This is Maxie, Kate Howard's assistant. I'm sorry, Mr. Jacks is in a really important meeting right now. He's going to have to call you back.
[Maxie hangs up]
Carly: Oh, my gosh.
Lulu: What?
Carly: Maxie Jones just hung up on me.
Lulu: [Laughing] Ok, all right, it's not like Maxie didn't ask for this. Kate Howard just got herself a new and improved assistant. Me.
Sonny: We've had a lot of disagreements lately. It turns out you were right about Michael disappearing and Kate getting shot. And, you know, I'm not going to forget that he beat me down, but it seems like, you know, Johnny wanted peace all along, and it was -- you know, I'm the one that escalated everything. And it turned -- it could've turned into an ugly war. So I should've listened to you. But then again, I can't have you second guessing me, 'cause I can't have, you know, I'm thinking, like, are my guys -- are they listening to your orders or my orders? It's not that I don't want -- I want you to be honest with me, and I want you to -- I want to be able to hear what you have to say. But if I make a decision, I need to know that you're backing me, right or wrong.
Jason: I learned this business from you.
Sonny: Right.
Jason: I would never undercut you to our men or anybody else. Let's jut get that out of the way right now. But there are times when your personal situation affects your judgment. Now, as a friend, I gotta say something. And I want you to do the same to me, you know?
Sonny: You think that's what's happening now?
Jason: With?
Sonny: Well, because, you know, there is nothing I want more right now than peace. I want my children to be secure. I want to be with Kate. I don't want her to be a target. That's why I initiated the truce with the Zaccharas. You think I'm walking into a trap?
Jason: I don't think the Zaccharas want a war anymore than we do.
Sonny: Well, I'm betting you're right. I'm hoping that the truce will hold, at least long enough for you to get your damn hands fixed.
Jason: Mm.
Sonny: Anyway, listen, when you get back, I'm gonna need you to go to work.
Jason: I'll be ready.
Jason: And, uh, before I go, I'm gonna make arrangements with Max over the security arrangements that need to be taken care of.
Sonny: No, no, no, no, no. I'm handling that.
Jason: After what happened with Michael, I see you pulling back on the guards right now. I see it, ok? You need guards, Sonny. You still need guards.
Sonny: You take care of yourself. I'm gonna take care of that, ok? And one more thing, before you -- I, you know, I listened to what you had to say about my situation, so you gotta hear me out on this. This thing with Elizabeth and your kid has got you very distracted, and I'm just telling you, you need to figure out how to deal with it because it's not working right now. And you know in this business, one mistake can cost you.
Claudia: You understand this can't be traced back to my family in any way. It would trigger a mob war.
Jerry: Yes, things do seem a little tense.
Claudia: Sonny is unstable. He's unpredictable. I can't work with him. No one should have to. The guy is completely out of his mind.
Jerry: Why do I think there's more to this, hmm?
Claudia: Sonny kidnapped my brother. Locked him in padded room, beat him, starved him for days. He's gonna pay with more than his business. He's gonna pay with his life.
Jerry: I see.
Claudia: Once he's out of the way, we'll make a deal with Jason Morgan that'll benefit all of us. But Sonny -- Sonny's gotta go as soon as possible.
Ian: I assume he has tight security.
Claudia: No, he's careless. He shows up in all kinds of random places with no guards at all.
Jerry: Well, that sounds interesting.
Claudia: So, I'll let you know when Sonny's available, and you'll take care of the rest?
Ric: Mr. Zacchara.
Anthony: I know you. You're Trevor's son.
Ric: Yes, I'm also the man that you stabbed last November with a sword.
Anthony: I don't recall.
Ric: Yeah. Ah, insanity. It's a convenient thing, isn't it? I've used it on more than one occasion. It's a great excuse to do terrible things.
Anthony: Aren't you the arrogant one? Almost as obnoxious as your father.
Ric: Yes, speaking of dear old dad, he's exactly the reason why I'm here to help you.
Kate: I certainly hope Neela appreciates all your hard work on this negotiation.
Jax: And I certainly hope she appreciates Kate's generosity.
Kate: Oh, in the future, please remind Neela that I won't be dealing with any subordinates.
Coral: I understand.
Kate: Thank you.
Jax: Well done.
Maxie: That was amazing.
Kate: We certainly make an effective team.
Jax: Hey, I told you. Good job.
[Knock on door]
Jax: You were really good.
Carly: Wow, my timing seems to be perfect.
Kate: It's customary to knock, Carly.
Carly: We did. So, isn't the assistant supposed to answer the door?
Jax: We were on a conference call.
Carly: That's no excuse for Maxie to slack off. Who knows what else she let slide.
Maxie: Fortunately for you, Lulu here is willing to be your assistant.
Kate: Ok, Carly, how is this any of your business?
Carly: Simple -- my husband is paying your bills, so my cousin will be working for you as long as she wants.
Anthony: How did you get in here? [Shouting] Maria! Bring the dogs!
Ric: You can kill the crazy routine, Mr. Zacchara. You're more rational than you've been in years.
Anthony: Who told you that?
Ric: I read your file.
Anthony: That's a private medical document.
Ric: Yeah. Yeah, it says that you were clinically insane at the time of the rampage at Wyndemere, so you can't be held responsible. And if your medical team agrees that you're sane now, then they can't hold you against your will.
Anthony: You could get me out of here?
Ric: Maybe.
Anthony: [Chuckles]
Ric: For a price.
Jason: I -- I need you to take care of something for me.
Spinelli: Ok, well, are you still having dark visions of mob wars and other non-specific portents of doom?
Jason: Sonny is cutting back on guards. He wants to prove to Michael and Morgan and Kate that he doesn't need guards or any guns.
Spinelli: Well, but, naturally the protectors of the night will still guard Mr. Corinthos, sir, yes?
Jason: Right, but that's not good enough while I'm gone. Ok? I want you to follow him.
Spinelli: Me?
Jason: Yeah, you. I want -- I want -- I want you follow -- I want you to follow Sonny. I want you to call me if anything seems off. If you think you're overreacting, I still want you call me, ok?
Spinelli: Ok, I'm sorry, just to be clear, you want Jackal P.I. to follow Mr. Corinthos, sir, without his knowledge and in your absence?
Jason: Isn't that what I just said?
Spinelli: How?
Jason: You'll figure it out. Good-bye.
Jerry: Let me make one thing clear. Never, ever make plans on my behalf without my prior knowledge.
Ian: My apologies for springing the whole Corinthos thing on you without any warning, but it was news to me, too.
Jerry: Yes, Ms. Zacchara appears to be a woman scorned, doesn't she?
Ian: That's beside the point. Claudia needs to be liable as well. It levels the field.
Jerry: Yes, assuming that you think that I'll go out and kill Sonny Corinthos. I'll do nothing of the sort.
Ian: You couldn't possibly be developing a conscience?
Jerry: Well, you see Sonny has survived many assassination attempts, and if he survived this one, I could be involved. And you see, Sonny is the father of my brother's stepchildren. Jax would never forgive me, and it could implicate him.
Ian: So you make sure Corinthos doesn't survive.
Jerry: I won't take the risk. Nothing is worth losing a brother, but if you want Sonny dead, why don't you just pull the trigger yourself, hmm?
Sonny: Ok, what do you want?
Claudia: Better question, why did you even bother to show up?
>> On the next "General Hospital" --
Patrick: You're beautiful. Robin: What? Carly: We're financing Kate's magazine. You need to have Kate hire her. Sonny: Just stay away from me. Spinelli: Uh, oh. Trouble. Claudia: It will work perfectly. Sonny's not going to ignore him.
