Robin: Running another cat scan might show a difference.
Patrick: It's not going to make a difference.
Robin: Well, then let's change medications for the next two days. Once the swelling goes down --
patrick: It is not fair to give them false hope. The patient is a permanent gcs one. Someone has to tell michael's family that he is not going to wake up.
Carly: You know, i haven't ruled it out yet. I'm still thinking about climbing in that bed and holding him like i used to. I could even sing to him. I'm sure that would wake him up.
Bobbie: Michael knows you're here.
Carly: And i'm going to stay with him until he wakes up.
Bobbie: I'll tell you what. You can't take him in your arms, but if it's ok, your momma could hold you.
Carly: No singing.
Bobbie: No singing. nikolas: Ok, you want to sit up there? Come on.
Nadine: Hey, sweetie.
Nikolas: Spencer, this is nadine.
Nadine, i'd like you to meet my son spencer. Say hi.
Nadine: Nice to meet you officially.
Nikolas: So what do you think of rubicon here?
Nadine: Oh, he's gorgeous. What is he, about three?
Spencer: Yeah, almost four now. He's the first foal out of sheba, my favorite thoroughbred mare. His father's a hanoverian.
Nadine: Now that is a pretty serious horse. I miss mine so much. He's just a good old fashioned quarter horse. That means short and stocky, spencer, pretty much the opposite of ruby.
Spencer: It's rubicon, actually.
Nadine: My horse is captain. We practically grew up together in ohio. We would run barrels and pole bend, flag race. One year we even won best all around at the 4-h state show. And you have no idea what i'm talking about.
Spencer: No, not at all.
Nikolas: But it sure sounds like fun. And i think that you've accepted my apology.
Nadine: Oh, the minute you said, "would you be interested in meeting my horse?", I was all yours. Is that good? You want another one?
Alan: My grandson is in the hospital fighting for his life. You should be supporting father and monica.
Tracy: Monica is in a 12-step program, holding hands with people and singing kumbaya.
Alan: What happens if she reads about michael in the newspaper or hears it on the news? She'll be devastated -- go and call her.
Tracy: And tell her what? That her grandson is in the hospital because of sonny corinthos? How is that going to help her sobriety?
Alan: You know, you might be able to understand if you weren't so damn selfish.
Tracy: Why is it selfish to be concerned that my husband spent the night out?
Alan: Do you really think he was with claudia?
Tracy: He said that he was going to stay on at the haunted star to protect it.
Alan: What's the problem?
[Doorbell]
tracy: He's a liar.
Edward: Oh, for pete's sake, i have to do everything around here -- ridiculous. I'm sorry, the deliveries are -- oh, hello.
Claudia: Hi. You must be edward quartermaine. I'm claudia zacchara, i have a meeting with your sister tracy.
Edward: Well, tracy is my daughter.
Claudia: You're kidding? I never would have guessed, i'm so sorry.
Edward: Thank you.
Claudia: Wow, what a great house, it just seems to go on forever.
Edward: Would you like a tour?
Alice: I'm sorry, but dr. Q didn't approve of any home tours today.
Edward: Alice, why don't you go find something to dust.
Alice: The family isn't receiving guests at this time, let me show you out.
Tracy: Ms. Zacchara and i have a meeting. Please show her into the living room.
Alexis: Why won't you help me leave town? So i can stay here and flirt with you? Don't you think that's a bit narcissistic?
Jerry: Well, probably, but if sonny's enemies decided to find you, they would. Modern technology has made it impossible to disappear for long.
Alexis: Well, it's too dangerous to stay here.
Jerry: Yes, but hiding out is dangerous, too. It creates the illusion of security.
Alexis: It's not an illusion that my daughter will be continents away from guns that are constantly pointed at her father's head.
Jerry: If christina decided to grow up and be as determined and independent as you are, she would insist on tracking sonny down at some point. She'd come to port charles and she'd blame you for keeping her away from daddy.
Alexis: At least she'd be alive.
Jerry: Wouldn't it be better to help her understand the reality of the situation?
Alexis: Yeah, sonny and carly tried that with michael.
Jerry: Oh, come on, they allowed michael to buy into that gangster fantasy. But if you tell her the truth from the start, then --
alexis: What do you want me to tell her? Do you want me to tell her that her daddy is a professional criminal and her mother is an idiot for sleeping with him?
Jerry: No, no -- just tell her that her father is a deeply flawed and dangerous man who loves her but wants to be a good father.
Alexis: Why do you even care?
Jerry: Because i like you, alexis. Why wouldn't i want you to be happy?
Bobbie: Hey, would you pour me a drink? Scotch, straight up, right now.
Luke: You got it, baby. Hard day?
Bobbie: Michael's not going to wake up.
Luke: Oh, God. You talk to the doctors?
Bobbie: No, but i didn't have to because i'm a nurse. And i've been through this before, with b.J. As a nurse i saw the truth the way a mother wouldn't. And now carly is going through exactly the same thing i did.
Luke: So he's going to die?
Bobbie: It might be better if he did. Now you know i'd never say that to carly. Because she needs me to be strong right now and she needs me to see the bright side. God, i get so damn sick of looking on the bright side.
Luke: Well, you've certainly come to the right place.
Bobbie: Carly's sitting in the i.C. With jason. Jax is stuck in houston. Sonny -- who knows where sonny is, sonny can't even be bothered to show up. And she's trying so hard to be so brave and so strong, and she has absolutely no idea what is ahead of her. You know, losing a child it'slike this toxic kind of grief. And it never really goes away. I would do anything to be able to spare her that. And you know, i warned her. I told her when she first got involved with sonny. I said to her, you know what, his life is no life for a child. But she wouldn't, or she couldn't listen. And now my grandsons are going to never stop paying for her mistakes.
Luke: Well, i would never defend carly and i'm not saying you're wrong. But barbara, you know, nobody can see the future. You know, we make the choices we make and then we live with the consequences.
Bobbie: Would you feel that way if lulu was lying in the i.C.U. With a bullet in her head?
Carly: Bobbie brought some turnovers, you should eat some.
Jason: I'm not hungry, you need to eat something.
Carly: They're michael's favorite. One more way we're alike, he loves junk food like me.
Carly: I'll be back -- i'll be back, sweetie.
Carly: Hey.
Lulu: Hi, how is he?
Carly: Better, yeah.
Patrick's running more tests. But he's doing better. Thank you for calling everybody.
Lulu: Oh, yeah. I just -- i wish i could do more. So where's sonny?
Carly: I have no idea.
Lulu: Johnny didn't do this. He was with me at the haunted star when michael was shot. So, you know, if you could just tell sonny and jason that johnny didn't do this. I mean, it's horrible what happened to michael. And it would just be even worse if they went after the wrong person as payback. So if you could tell them that johnny -- he didn't do it.
Carly: I'll make sure i tell
jason that.
Lulu: Ok -- and if, you know, jason could tell sonny, too. Alice: That's enough mr. Quartermaine, let's go.
Edward: No, leave me alone.
Alice: That's the last woman on earth your cardiologist would want you to be talking to. Come on.
Tracy: My husband is not well.
Claudia: This is good.
Tracy: He almost died last december.
Claudia: Yeah, i heard. The coffee could be a little hotter.
Tracy: I don't want him investigated by the i.R.S., I don't want him spending the night in the haunted star to protect it, and i don't want him in the line of somebody else's fire. So i am prepared to buy you out.
Claudia: I guess that's one way to get me out of luke's lap.
Kate: Sonny must have seen something, because he tackled me to the ground. He was holding me, he asked if i was ok. Someone yelled out that michael was bleeding.
Ric: I'm so sorry.
Kate: Well, not for me, i hope. I mean, i wasn't the intended victim and i walked out without a scratch.
Ric: Well, i wouldn't say that.
Kate: Sonny was cradling michael in his arms. He was saying everything was going to be ok, that daddy was here. And there was nothing that i could do for either of them.
Ric: Where's sonny now?
Kate: He's probably at the hospital. Maybe carly let him in.
Ric: He hasn't contacted you yet?
Kate: Not since last night, ric. I'm sorry i couldn't be more help.
Ric: It's all right. Is there anything i can do for you?
Kate: Ric, i'm fine. I'm fine, the crimson launch party is back on schedule. And i'm sure that sounds pathetic and shallow.
Ric: No, it doesn't actually.
Kate: I laid there when i got shot. I laid there in the hospital, and i asked myself, "what am i doing with my life?" I worked really hard to get my position and i do not want to throw it away. I love your brother, but i do not want to die for him.
Ric: Well, good for you. I don't necessarily think that self-preservation is a bad thing.
Kate: I'm sorry, ric. I don't know why i'm telling you all this.
Ric: Well, maybe because you've had a very traumatic experience. Several of them, actually. It kind of makes you take stock of what you have, what's important. You know, it puts things in perspective. I've had those moments of clarity before. It's just a little difficult to hang on to the vision, you know? Anyway, i hope you are better at it than i am, i haven't bee very good. Thank for the --
kate: No, no ric, just wait -- let me tell sonny that you came by and you asked about michael.
Ric: Kate, i think it would be better for you and for sonny if you didn't.
Carly: His color's definitely getting better.
Jason: It's too hard to tell, carly.
Carly: Yeah, well, his cheeks are definitely pinker. God, i wish patrick would come back with those test results. It's probably some stupid surgeon ego thing, right? I bet you'd wish i'd stop talking, don't you?
Jason: No, that's ok.
Carly: You probably want me to stop talking, don't you? I bet you do. You're so sick of hearing my voice, aren't you? Why don't you talk to him?
Jason: No, he knows i'm right here.
Carly: You can tell him a story.
Jason: Well, i don't know any stories.
Carly: I wonder whatever happened to that book that you used to read to him all the time, the one about africa? And he loved giraffes, because of you. He knew what a map was before he could ever sit up because of you.
Jason: A long time ago, carly, a long time ago.
Carly: Well, he would love to hear about it. Or you could tell him a story from when you went away for that year. Talk to him, jason.
Jason: A few years ago when i left town for awhile, i went to africa. Just like the book i used to read you when you were a baby. Just wanted to see if it was really like the book -- and it is. Except the african savannah is a lot bigger than we imagined. It's five million square miles. It's pretty amazing -- you know, it's flat with mountains in the back. It's just like the pictures in the book. The sky was everywhere, it seemed bigger than the land. It reminded me of -- those pictures you used to draw. You know, where the land was just a little green line at the bottom of the page and all the rest was the sky.
Jason: Um -- animals, i know you like animals. Herds of zebras and giraffes and i think you'd like it there. Everything's so wide open and bright. And everything is so -- alive. We're going to go there soon, ok? Wake up, michael. I want you to wake up. I want you to wake up and get better. nadine: See, he loves carrots, it's his favorite.
Nikolas: Spencer, i'll tell you what. When you're six, daddy gets you a pony. What do you think about that?
Nadine: Oh, no, no, you cannot get this kid a pony.
Nikolas: Why not? I learned to ride on a pony.
Nadine: No, he needs a good old bomb proof quarter horse.
Nikolas: No, i want him to learn how to post and jump and ride across country.
Nadine: On a pony -- please. You teach a kid to ride by putting him in front of you on a western saddle.
Nikolas: Sorry, i don't think so.
Nadine: Oh, gosh, shoot -- i'm sorry, i didn't realize you only rode english.
Nikolas: Oh, ok. No, i want him to learn on a pony so he's not afraid to fall.
Nadine: Well, why don't you put him on a full size horse and teach him to keep his butt in a saddle.
Nikolas: Whatever -- come here. So what do you think -- is she right? You're not supposed to agree with her. Ok, i'll tell you what. We'll do that, and if you fall, i promise i'll be there to pick you up, ok?
Spencer: Ok.
Claudia: How did you and luke end up getting married, anyway? Was it a joke, or was he after your money?
Tracy: I'll give you a 10% bump over whatever you paid to buy into the haunted star.
Claudia: See, you just seem kind of matronly for a legend like luke spencer.
Tracy: Name your price. What will it take to get rid of you for good?
Luke: Now why would anyone want to get rid of miss zacchara?
Kate: You're three hours late.
Lulu: I had a family tragedy last night. I've been rushing around all morning trying to help.
Kate: Where's my coffee?
Lulu: You were at the warehouse where michael was shot, and you're doing business this morning like nothing even happened?
Kate: If you find my behavior so objectionable, by all means go ahead and quit.
Lulu: I would just like a little compassion, ok? I was late this morning because i was helping my family and trying to prevent a mob war from starting. Sonny is going to blame johnny zacchara, and i know he didn't do it.
Kate: And did you accomplish your mission of mercy, lulu? Tell me, what gave you the impression that a grieving mother, sitting vigil with her brain injured son, could benefit from your counsel and advice? And did you think that this so-called mob war could be stopped by a spunky little know-it-all? Tell me, how were your noble efforts received today, lulu? Did you set everybody's priorities straight? Did you accomplish anything at all? You know, you consider yourself so independent and original. But it's almost amusing that you don't see yourself for the cliche that you really are. A typical spoiled 20-something who thinks the entire world begins and ends with her. Get me celeste at maha chang.
Carly: Can you imagine the three of us on a safari? It would be so much fun. Like that time we went to florida and jason took you into the ocean and you loved it. We were all a big family then.
Carly: Did you guys get the test results back?
Patrick: Can i speak to you alone?
Carly: Yeah, of course. Michael, i'll be right back.
Jason: Ok.
Robin: Is sonny back yet?
Carly: No, no he's not here.
Robin: Sonny should be here for this.
Carly: Just tell me when michael's going to wake up.
Patrick: Michael appears to be in a permanent coma. We don't ever expect him to regain consciousness.
>> on the next "General Hospital."
Carly: You're wrong. He's going to wake up, he's getting better.
Monica: Has something happened?
Sonny: I can't go see my son without making it worse for carly.
