Thursday July 17 Part- 1 Carly: Hey, you know what? Last night was amazing. Makes it almost worth fighting with you so we can get to the make up part.
Jax: You know, it really should bother me more the way you sexed and manipulated me.
Carly: What are you talking about? I was just enjoying being with the man I love.
Jax: Right, who had just given you exactly what you wanted.
Carly: I thought we both agreed that it was the best thing for our marriage for you to keep it business only with Kate and not fuel the speculation that you two are dating for the magazine.
[Knock on door]
Jax: Excuse me.
Kate: Hey -- so, we have a make-or-break meeting in less than an hour. If you're not there, "Crimson" will be out of business before we've even hit the stands.
Jason: Spinelli, search for anything that could implicate Lulu in Logan's murder. I'm sure there's nothing out there, but I -- I want to be -- I want to be positive, okay?
Spinelli: The Jackal will turn his sadly depleted powers to the task at hand.
Jason: What's wrong -- what's wrong with you?
Spinelli: I fear my heart is broken.
Lulu: You do not skip a beat, do you?
Johnny: Lulu, don't.
Lulu: He is locked up for a murder he didn't commit, and only you would see this as an opportunity to hit on him.
Maxie: That's not what's happening.
Johnny: I was trying to get Maxie to help keep --
Lulu: I don't want Maxie's help. I need you to trust me.
Patrick: You know, we have been arguing so much about my role in our baby's life, we haven't even talked about your mother's.
Robin: Hmm.
Patrick: Or what we're going to call her, because it's quite obvious grandma's not going to work.
Robin: Right. I think she was a little freaked out at first, but she's come around to the idea.
Patrick: The fact that she didn't jump for joy at the start might have hurt a little bit.
Robin: No, because I know it has nothing to do with how much she loves me or how much she loves our baby. My mom is going to make the best grandmother ever. I think it was the word "grandmother" that freaked her out, you know? Kind of like the word "father" freaked you out at first. The idea of changing diapers and midnight feedings was all a little too much to deal with at first. You know, it's strange that I could clearly see what my mother was going through, but I couldn't see it when you were going through that, even though it was the same kind of thing.
Patrick: Why do you think that is?
Robin: Maybe because my mom has to love me forever. You don't.
Patrick: I want to.
Robin: I know you love me. I love you, too. I'm just learning to trust that, I guess.
Patrick: Well, I'm learning, too. A little bit more every day. I couldn't imagine my life without you. You and this baby mean everything to me.
Robin: Really? Prove it.
Patrick: How might I do that?
Robin: You could take us to Jake's. Come on. The baby wants cheese fries.
Patrick: Cheese fries?
Robin: Yes.
Sam: Okay, I -- I think I have a plan, okay? Just -- if I could get a job on one of the transport ships, I might be able to get a lead on how the drugs are moved.
Nadine: That sounds incredibly dangerous. And no offense, but it's not like the smuggler's going to take an ad out in the paper. "Wanted, captain for illegal transport of fake drugs."
Sam: Yeah, okay, look, no offense taken, but I did pilot salvage vessels for years. I know pretty much everybody on the waterfront. All I got to do is go down there and say that I'm looking for work, I need the money, and I'm not going to talk.
Nikolas: I'm sorry. I have a big problem with this plan.
Lucky: There is no plan. It's not happening.
Johnny: Lulu, you know I trust you.
Lulu: Yeah, and you're arranging for a girl I hate to keep her eye on me.
Maxie: Hate me all you want, but I have been covering and lying for you since the night Logan died.
Lulu: Maybe I didn't want you to. Maybe I did not want any of this.
Johnny: Okay, I know --
Lulu: No, don't you try to take care of me. You're the one facing murder charges, and you're acting as if this is all going to work itself out, but it's not.
Johnny: If you want me to say it, fine. I was not expecting the cops to find this much proof this quickly, but they did, and there's nothing we can do to change that, and if we try to change it, it'll only make things more difficult.
Lulu: So if you think I'm going to stand by and do nothing, you obviously don't know me at all.
Johnny: Lulu, there's nothing you can do, okay? Lulu!
Maxie: Do you see my point?
Spinelli: I know I should be able to just dismiss this with a manly shrug. You know, she's just a girl, a fair wisp of blondeness. But I can't. It hurts too much.
Jason: I know.
Spinelli: Yeah, but it's pathetic, I know. Wait, you know? Have -- have you felt the flame of passion, only to be incinerated by its blazing white heat? Have you suffered this way? Look, I'm sorry. I don't mean to pry into Stone Cold's personal life. It's just that I -- gosh, I -- I need something -- wisdom. Is it true what they say, that the pain will fade over time? Because while I was certain on at least five or six occasions that Lulu broke my heart, I now know that the intensity of real love is quite different in both its rapture and its despair.
Jason: What happened with Maxie?
Spinelli: She apologized for sleeping with me, felt she'd taken advantage of me and then she vowed to never let it happen again, because it might poison our friendship.
Jason: Maybe she's right.
Spinelli: Does the master really believe that a sexual relationship, as it were, would taint the warm and meaningful feelings --
Spinelli: Perhaps Maximista has seen the flaws in her reasoning and has returned to the Jackal's side. Enter, fair one.
Max: I need to talk to Jason.
Spinelli: A most inopportune arrival.
Jason: Come in, Max.
Max: Is this a bad time?
Spinelli: Most assuredly. I was just about to avail myself --
Max: Spinelli, I need to talk to Jason for a second. Can you give us a second, please?
Spinelli: Sure, fine. I'll just retire to my regrettably pink room and pine for that which was once mine but apparently never will be again.
Jason: What's going on?
Max: Milo and I have been talking it over, and the boss, Mr. C -- Jason, he needs us. He's living in a house with no security. He's driving himself back and forth to the coffee warehouse, and he's still a target. Not that you haven't done a great job taking over the territory.
Jason: Max, get to the point.
Max: Listen, Jason, you don't even need me and Milo, but Mr. C does.
Jason: Whose idea is this, yours or Sonny's?
Max: Mine. I just talked to Mr. C about it. He told me I needed to come over and tell you myself. I hope that you don't think we're being disloyal. It's more about what Mr. C is used to. I just think he's having a tough time adjusting, and I really haven't --
Jason: I agree.
Max: You do?
Jason: Yeah, I never wanted Sonny without guards in the first place. I think you and Milo should be with him.
Max: Wow, thank you, Jason, for understanding.
Jason: Max, look, I'm not -- I'm not asking you to spy on Sonny, nothing like that. I just -- if he gets in trouble, will you just let me know? Because I haven't turned on Sonny, no matter what he thinks.
Carly: If you need Jax for a meeting, have your assistant call his assistant. Don't show up at my house trying to take him away in person.
Jax: Carly --
Kate: Jax, I certainly understand why you chose not to fuel the speculation about you and I, even though it is good for business, which was my only motivation.
Carly: Are you done, Kate?
Kate: And I am sensitive to the strain that might be placed on your relationship, because I'm actually feeling the same with Sonny, but this meeting is strictly business.
Jax: Right, which is why I'll be there.
Kate: Great. Without foreign distribution, we won't be able to deliver the numbers we promised our advertisers.
Jax: We'll get the distribution.
Kate: Thank you, Jax. I'll have the numbers ready, and I'll expect you to play hardball.
Jax: See you at the office.
Kate: Okay.
Carly: Don't tell me you're buying any of that. She will do anything she can to be in the same room with you, and when you close this deal, and I'm sure you will, Kate's going to want to celebrate.
Jax: Look, look, look --
Carly: Are you going to tell me that's business too?
Jax: If "Crimson" doesn't meet the distribution that we promised the advertisers then we'll go broke in six months. Carly, if you can't see this meeting as crucial, then I don't know. I just -- I don't have time to explain it to you right now. I got to go.
Eli: Hey, I was telling your friend, Coleman, actually that this place -- it reminds me of a bar back home.
Anna: Oh, yeah, in Melbourne?
Eli: Yeah, it's -- we should go there for a few drinks next time we're there.
Anna: Okay.
Eli: That is, provided you're planning on coming on the Aussie leg of the tour.
Anna: When is it?
Eli: Fall, end of October, maybe. I'll have -- I'll have Chip send you the exact date.
Anna: Yeah, it's all right. I'll catch up with you on the European leg.
Eli: Why, you don't want to come see my home in Melbourne?
Anna: Yeah, of course I do. I'd love to, but I have other plans for the fall.
Eli: What plans?
Anna: I should have told you this -- but then I'd have to kill you.
Eli: Hey, it's Patrick and Robin. Come over for drinks, guys. We've been waiting for you. Come on. Whoa, whoa! Wait a minute. You're pregnant? Hey, that makes you a --
Anna: A grandma.
Lucky: It's common knowledge that you and I are dating. So tell me, who's going to help a cop's girlfriend to smuggle drugs?
Sam: I have worked scams most of my adult life. I know how to handle myself.
Lucky: We're talking big money here. They won't hesitate to kill you if they find out who you are.
Sam: Yes, I know. Is it risky? Absolutely. But if we go by the book on this, somebody will die.
Nikolas: You get involved, you could die.
Lucky: I'm not being Joe cop here, but my father's way will not work on this. It's the department's responsibility to deal with this, even if it takes longer than you're comfortable with.
Maxie: Maybe we could get an attorney. You know, Diane Miller. Spinelli's always talking about how she's made a career out of representing felons and criminals, getting them out of huge messes.
Johnny: Maxie, I have attorneys.
Maxie: I am talking about someone on the outside, someone who could look after all of us. I mean, maybe Diane can convince Lulu to -- to confess, and she could get probation or something.
Johnny: Don't you bail on Lulu.
Maxie: I'm sorry, but you're plan of protecting Lulu, it's not really worked out all that well, and all you've done is get yourself charged for a murder that you didn't commit.
Johnny: Okay, you know what? Both of us know why I did this and why you went along with it. Logan attacked you before he went after Lulu, remember? He was ready to rape you and maybe kill her.
Maxie: Okay, well, we should just tell our lawyer that.
Johnny: There are no witnesses. It is your word and Lulu's for what happened, and when Scott Baldwin shows up, he is going to want whoever took Logan out to fry. And I can still do this, but you cannot cave on me. Even dead, Logan has the power to ruin our lives. He can't win. Don't do this.
Maxie: Okay, okay, I'll see what I can do.
Spinelli: Has Mr. Giambetti finished with his ill-timed visit?
Jason: Max and Milo are going back to work for Sonny.
Spinelli: Mr. Sir will no doubt welcome their return.
Jason: Yeah, it's just a better arrangement for everybody.
Spinelli: Actually, the Jackal begs to differ, because now Stone Cold will not only be short one, but two pivotal protectors of the night. And now, of course, you will turn your attention to more pressing business matters and have no time for the Jackal's romantic woes.
Jason: Hey, you know I'd help you if I could, but if all Maxie wants is a friendship, you need to respect that.
Spinelli: Yeah, but I can't ever look at Maximista as a mere friend. I mean, not after -- after standing atop the summit of Everest, after having my soul purged in the desolate plain of the Nambi desert, in the sacred waters of the Ganges. I was a fool to believe she could feel the same way.
Jason: You know, some people can't really be happy in love. I know this don't make any sense to you at all right now, with how you're feeling, but when Maxie is offering a friendship, maybe it's because it's the only way she can feel that you guys can keep what you have right now.
Spinelli: Stone Cold's words are wise. His reasoning is sound, but it doesn't lessen the Jackal's hope that one day Maximista --
[Pounding on door]
Spinelli: Surely, Max would not return a second time, right? It -- it must be Maximista. Wait. How do I look?
Carly: Hi. Spinelli, I'm sorry, but I need to talk to Jason alone.
Spinelli: I've -- clearly, Jackal's been waiting in vain for a change of heart. Sadly, his romantic fate is sealed.
Carly: Okay, did I hurt his feelings?
Jason: No, somebody else did. Why do you need to see me?
Carly: Because I need to get rid of Kate Howard as soon as possible.
Eli: You are so pregnant.
Robin: Okay, you really have to stop saying that.
Eli: How is that possible?
Patrick: Well, it's very -- fairly common when a man and a woman love each other. They --
Eli: No, no, I know that topic, mate. But I mean, how is it possible I missed it last night?
Robin: Well, because I was in a hurry. I was on my way to surgery, and we had to --
Anna: Robin was deliberately avoiding you for my sake.
Eli: Because?
Anna: You're a rock star, and I'm a soon-to-be-grandmother, and Robin was withholding that little piece of information, and I let her, which is fundamentally dishonest, and I'm sorry for that. My only defense is that I've really enjoyed spending time with you. I've loved it. It was great.
Eli: Wait. You're the most amazing, kick-ass woman I have ever met. You connect with me. You connect with my music. Why would I walk away from that just because your daughter gets herself knocked up?
Jason: Will you -- will you calm down, please?
Carly: I'm trying to calm down. That's why I'm here, okay? I have to think things through. I have to be very careful in how I get rid of Kate, because if I tick off Sonny, he's going to tell Jax that we slept together.
Jason: Well, then maybe you shouldn't go after Kate.
Carly: I have tried coexist. I have told Jax that I can't stand him spending time with a woman who constantly hits on him.
Jason: She kissed him one time, Carly.
Carly: Oh, great, now you're defending her.
Jason: No, I'm not defending her. I'm just saying, is it worth everything to blow your life apart, to blow your marriage apart for this?
Carly: My marriage is already in trouble. Jax won't hear it. He keeps telling me it's all about business, and I'm supposed to sit around and just accept that?
Jason: Well, he's got a lot of money invested in Kate and the magazine. What --
Carly: Okay, fine, then I'm going to find a way for Jax to sell Kate out at a profit.
Kate: Oh, good, I wasn't entirely sure you would make it.
Jax: You heard what I said to Carly.
Kate: Jax, I don't want you to regret getting involved in this project.
Jax: I have no regrets, okay?
Kate: Okay, and I really don't want to cause personal problems for you.
Jax: Well, then let's talk about business. What can you tell me about this European distributor?
Kate: Hans Brekker. We need him. He knows it. He's going to play hardball.
Jax: German guy?
Kate: Ja.
Jax: Oh, that is awesome.
Kate: Here he is. Hans.
Hans: How wonderful to see you, Kate.
Kate: And this is my business partner, Jasper Jax.
Jax: [Speaking German]
Hans: [Speaking German]
Kate: Thank you.
Jax: Shall we get to business?
Jax: Please.
Hans: Thank you. I'll be frank. I have concerns about launching the American version of "Crimson." I think our markets would be more receptive to a European issue, perhaps in French or German.
Kate: Well, our strategy is to penetrate the market first and then make the move when the timing is right.
Hans: Oh, in that case, maybe you should hold off European distribution altogether.
Kate: Well, actually, "Couture" is going to run a preview section in all of their issues, including the European one, so we think the market is going to be primed for our debut.
Jax: If "Crimson" is positioned near "Couture," our market research indicates strong sales. Very strong sales, actually.
Hans: I'll be taking substantial risk, so I'll expect a higher share of the profits. After all, you are still an unknown quantity.
Jax: Yes, but Kate Howard is the most known quantity in the fashion industry. Yes, the magazine is new, but it's also young and fresh, aims at a much younger demographic. It will be the perfect vehicle for an e-publishing arm.
Hans: They have an e-publishing arm.
Jax: Right, which generated less than 2% of revenue last year. Hans, we have a proposal here that will help make that figure 20%. Kate pretty much put you on the map with "Couture," didn't she? Her new magazine, "crimson," is the future.
Hans: I'd like to see those figures.
Jax: I'm sure you would.
Jerry: Thank you for your kind attention.
Matt: Oh, I am not done with you yet. I need to get a ct scan of his kidneys.
Elizabeth: He was punched.
Matt: The severity of your pain, what would you compare that to? A stubbed toe? Childbirth?
Elizabeth: Hey.
Matt: How about watching the cable news?
Jerry: Yes, that one, yes.
Matt: Okay, is it steady?
Jerry: Oh, no, it's -- oh.
Matt: Yes, okay. See, he has episodic pain of colic, which means that he --
Elizabeth: Is having kidney pain that comes and goes?
Matt: Yes. Have you also had strep throat recently?
Jerry: Yes, as a matter of fact, I have.
Matt: Let me get a urine sample as well.
Elizabeth: You're testing for PSGN?
Matt: No, I want to see if he's taken any cool drugs. You never know when you're going to need a new dealer.
Elizabeth: Sometimes a bruise is just a bruise.
Matt: Nadine, the little girl who came into the clinic earlier with the antibiotic issue, how is she doing?
Nadine: She's stable. It helps that now she's getting actual antibiotics instead of the fake ones she was given at Mercy.
Elizabeth: Oh, that's scary to think the meds we're giving to cure patients could actually be useless counterfeits.
Nadine: Yeah.
[Elevator bell rings]
Lucky: Hey, can I talk to you for a minute?
Elizabeth: Yeah. Excuse me.
Lucky: Listen, something's come up, and I kind of have to work this weekend. I'm supposed to take Cameron to the -- you know, the baseball game this week, and I just really hate to disappoint him.
Elizabeth: Don't even worry about it. He -- he knows what you do is important. His daddy saves lives for a living. It's okay. I'll explain it to him again.
Lucky: Thank you.
Elizabeth: Don't worry about things like this.
Lucky: I know, it's just that I don't want to --
Sam: Well, you can never make time for me, but her, a woman who cheated on you and dumped you --
Elizabeth: No, no, no, Sam, this is not what it looks like.
Sam: No, I know when a guy -- I know exactly what it is, and I'm sick to death of it.
Maxie: Oh, God, why did you turn off your phone?
Lulu: I wanted to be alone. Take a hint.
Maxie: You know how I knew you would come here? Georgie told me this is where you like to think.
Lulu: Oh, don't do that. Don't bring up your sister in that way. She was a good person, and I hurt her, too, and on the other hand, you are the exact opposite.
Maxie: You owe me.
Lulu: I did not ask to cover up what happened to Logan.
Maxie: You could have said something that night, Lulu. When Johnny started talking about wanting to cover it up or Claudia came in and Johnny said that he wanted to take the blame? You could have said something then.
Lulu: Fine, fine, fine, fine. I am -- I am a coward. I am a tease. I drove Logan so crazy he was ready to kill us both, but I beat him to it, okay? And I let Johnny take the blame. I did this. I get it. What I would really like is for you to go away so I can figure this out.
Maxie: Take it from someone who knows. When you make a mess this big, there is no way to fix it.
Spinelli: This visit may be ill-advised.
Johnny: Well, you should have thought about that before.
Spinelli: No, I -- I've considered this from all angles, extrapolated all possible outcomes, and yes, I think you deserve to know the truth.
Johnny: The truth about what?
Spinelli: See, it was just -- gosh, the fact that Maximista needed someone and came to me? God, it's all I've ever wanted, but this -- I was not equipped. What she confided, I -- I had to tell Stone Cold.
Johnny: And by Stone Cold, you mean Jason?
Spinelli: Yeah, well, it was not my intention to betray the confidence, but she was so deeply distressed, and I just feared --
Johnny: What did Maxie tell you?
Spinelli: That it was Lulu, not you, who killed Logan.
Johnny: That bitch.
