Carly: If spinelli is coming home from the hospital today, you could at least find food that he likes, not whole wheat bread, celery and lettuce.
Jason: Wh -- what do you care what spinelli eats?
Carly: Well, if it were me, i would want, like, frozen pizzas, potato chips, cheesy snacks.
Jason: Ok, well, now that you and jax are back together, maybe you should worry more about what jax wants.
Carly: You don't have to worry about that.
Jax is going to be my number one priority.
Jax: I thought i caught carly in a lie. The fact is, she was set up.
Alexis: Jax, i think that's symptomatic of a bigger issue in your marriage, which is one of trust.
Jax: No, i do trust carly. She is as committed in this relationship as i am.
Alexis: I know you do. There is a dynamic that exists between sonny and carly, and i think you need to take a look at it. It -- it leaves destruction in its wake, and i -- we just hate to see you become another casualty.
Sonny: Uh, we were not expecting a welcoming committee.
[Diane laughs]
max: Hey, mr. C., Mrs. Howard.
Diane: "Ms." Howard.
Clarice: Kate, sorry. There is something you need to know about.
Ric: I object, your honor. This is a lie perpetrated by mr. Baldwin to avenge the death of his own son.
Anthony: You're not going to kill my boy.
Judge aroyo: Order. Another outburst like that, and i'll have you all brought up on contempt. Mr. Lansing?
Ric: Your honor, logan hayes was not a member of the police department.
Scott: Your honor, the victim was a police officer, and i can prove it.
jax: Alexis, your experience with sonny and carly is different to mine.
Alexis: I know. I know that's true, and i am biased. I was there the night that michael got shot. I watched them go at each other for 24 hours. It was ugly and it was painful, but, more importantly, it was a display of their love-hate relationship.
Jax: Carly has put all that behind her now.
Alexis: I love you, and you deserve someone who loves you completely, jax. And i'm not sure that carly will ever be capable of that.
Jax: You think i haven't had that conversation with myself a thousand times? As long as carly is committed to this relationship, and i know that she is, i trust her.
Carly: Jax had to know that he was worth fighting for -- and he is. You know, when i came down the steps and i saw jax and logan having breakfast, it was -- it was amazing. It was like having a real family, and that's all i've ever wanted.
Jason: I'm glad you got it.
Carly: God knows sonny and i tried to make it work. You know, and there were times when we were happy, but i've never felt the peace that i felt when jax came home today. And i know that i have been self-destructive, but i don't want to live that way anymore. I love jax. I love him so much. So, i wish sonny all the happiness with kate. I loathe her, and i despise her, but jax knows she lies. He doesn't trust her anymore. So, for me, kate howard is no longer a problem. Bye.
Kate: Does this important information affect the future of "crimson"?
Clarice: Well, no -- not exactly, but --
kate: Does it affect the issue going to print?
Clarice: No, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't --
kate: Ok, then. It can wait. As far as i'm concerned, i'm still on vacation. Now prove you're savvy and know when to leave. I promise, clarice, i'll be all yours as soon as i get to the office.
[Sonny murmurs]
diane: So --
[chuckles]
diane: How was the island?
Kate: Uh, it was lovely visiting a place that was so special to sonny.
Sonny: I let her win at the craps table.
Kate: You did not let me win. Don't you dare change your story. Is that what you're going to do?
Sonny: Yeah.
[Kate giggles]
diane: [Whispering inaudibly]
max: [Whispering inaudibly]
diane: Ok, so, sonny, there are a few business matters that we need to discuss.
Sonny: Diane, can you see that i'm busy.
Diane: I promise you just a moment of your time, and then you can get back to whatever --
sonny: No, no. Not now.
Diane: In fact, kate, uh -- max,
kate might like some -- some ice tea with limo -- lemon -- lemon on the -- on the terrace.
Max: I'm sure she's fine.
Diane: Yes, i'm sure you're sure that she's fine. But it's -- it's -- there's absolutely no time like the --
sonny: Not right now. Not now, diane, please. It's just -- it's --
diane: I respectfully disagree, sonny. This is -- this is the perfect time.
Lainey: How are you, lulu?
Lulu: Good. Glad to see my brother. I was just sitting here, enjoying the sun.
Lainey: Good.
Nikolas: It's good to see that you're outside.
Lulu: You can ask her. He wants to know if it's a good sign, my -- me being out here.
[Lainey laughs]
nikolas: Something like that.
Lulu: You can relax. I'm starting to see that this place could be good for me.
Lainey: Yes, lulu's making progress. If she keeps up with her therapy, she'll be out of here before you know it.
Nikolas: Good.
Lainey: I'll see you at four.
Lulu: Yeah, ok.
Nikolas: Thanks, lainey.
Nikolas: You know, you really did scare the hell out of me.
Lulu: Well, i scared myself, too, but i'm doing better now.
Nikolas: Any particular reason?
Lulu: Being close to mom has meant everything to me.
Ric: Your honor, permission to approach?
Judge aroyo: Mr. Lansing, i realize that you were not aware of the victim's undercover status. If you would like time to consult with your client, in light of the fact that this is now a death penalty case, i'll allow it.
Ric: Your honor, what mr. Baldwin is suggesting is that logan hayes was a police officer at the time of his death. He is not a police officer, never has been.
Scott: I can supply documentation that --
ric: Oh, forged documents, i'm sure.
Scott: Now that's a serious allegation, lansing.
Ric: Well, i think that the special prosecutor might be misled.
Logan hayes was not a police officer, your honor.
Logan hayes was, indeed, an ex-soldier who was dishonorably discharged.
Scott: Oh, that's just great. Smear the reputation of a man, a soldier, who served for this country.
Judge aroyo: The court is satisfied that logan hayes was working undercover for the pcpd at the time of this death. As such, his death would meet the parameters of murder with special circumstances.
Ric: Your honor, i request a continuance to verify the authenticity --
judge aroyo: Denied. I have already made my ruling on the victim's status. Do you want time for a recess with your client or not?
Ric: Yes, your honor, i would like a recess.
Ric: I'm sorry, john. I don't know how baldwin managed it, but you're literally fighting for your life.
Maxie: You know, you don't have to help us out. I could take spinelli, if you want.
Elizabeth: Just doing my job, maxie. Ok, spinelli, when you get home, lots of rest, nothing strenuous.
Maxie: But he doesn't have to stay in bed, right?
Elizabeth: No, he can get up, just for short periods of time.
Maxie: I wonder what's taking jason so long. He was supposed to pick up spinelli.
Elizabeth: I'm sure he'll be here.
Maxie: It's just inconsiderate to keep him waiting while he's not feeling good.
Spinelli: Perhaps he's being delayed by the slavic --
elizabeth: I said he'll be here.
Maxie: Oh, don't jump spinelli's throat just because you don't like the idea of jason dating someone else.
Nikolas: So, what would mom have anything to do with you feeling better?
Lulu: Being able to see her and hold her hand. It's put things into perspective.
Nikolas: Well, i thought that's what you were afraid of. That you'd end up like her.
Lulu: Well, not anymore I've managed to deal with what happened to logan.
Nikolas: Good. I mean, yeah, i guess i know what it feels like to be the one who survived. I mean on -- on one hand you want to be able embrace life. On the other, trying to figure out why you were chosen to live and not someone else. There's no real logical explanation for it. And even if there was, it doesn't change what happened, you know?
Lulu: Yeah.
Nikolas: You've just got to live your life, i guess, and move on.
Lulu: Well, i'll always be sorry about what happened to logan. But how i deal with it, how i live my life from here on out, depends on johnny.
Judge aroyo: Court will adjourn for a brief recess. 10 Minutes, counselors.
Ron: I don't know about serving on a death penalty case.
Edward: Well, i think johnny zacchara is guilty as sin, but i don't know that lethal injection is the answer.
Epiphany: The trial hasn't even started yet. We need to wait and see what happens.
Ron: Ms. Johnson is right.
Epiphany: My -- you can call me epiphany.
[Gasps]
edward: Oh, my good -- allow me, madam.
Mrs. Albright: Oh, thank you. I'm -- i must be just very nervous. I -- i -- what a difficult decision.
Edward: Well, you're only one of 12. Don't worry. 12, After all.
Mrs. Albright: Thank you.
Anthony: Look at them, trev. All those people are going to pay if my son if found guilty.
Trevor: Your son is not going to be found guilty, and you know it.
Ric: All right, look. I have enough evidence that will create reasonable doubt and get you acquitted, but, at this very moment, you are literally betting your life. You can enter a plea. You can get a reduced sentence and a guarantee that you are not going to be put to death.
Johnny: How long?
Ric: Five years. They're going to give you 10. Could be either.
Johnny: If i even spend a day in jail, my father is going to implode, and then he's going to go after every single person whoever so much as served me a cup of coffee. No plea bargain.
Alan: So, are you happy now?
Tracy: It's not my fault that baldwin decided to forge documents so it looks like his son was a cop.
Alan: You said you wanted lulu away from johnny at any cost. Does that include his death?
Tracy: Shut up.
[Tracy clears throat]
ric: John, i have a strong defense, but there is compelling evidence against you. The further we get into this trial, the harder it is going to be to get a plea bargain.
Johnny: Well, that's not an option for you or me. My father is not going to accept anything less than an acquittal, and if an acquittal doesn't happen, you are going to be the first in his line of fire. Now you can bail and turn this case over to trevor if you want. I'm not going to hold it against you.
Ric: No, no, i'm -- i'm a better lawyer than my father. You're going to need my help.
Jerry: Mmm. Hello, darling. Well, apparently i've missed you more than you've missed me.
Alexis: So? I'm just distracted
Jerry: What's wrong?
Alexis: Did you know that jax and carly have reconciled?
Jerry: Yes, and i say we should follow their example. So come home to me, and stop playing hard to get.
Alexis: Ok, maybe i will, but you have to help me first.
Jerry: What -- what are you talking about? Jax and carly are great together. She's perfect for him.
Alexis: That's what jax thinks, too. And as many misgivings as i might have about you, i do know that you love your brother. So i want you to go talk to him and be a sounding board to him.
Jerry: Mm-hmm.
Alexis: Because he is about to invest his whole heart in this again, and i don't want to see him head for a fall.
Jerry: Mm-mm.
Diane: You are -- you really need to take a look at the contract, sonny, because the exporter is trying to lay the taxes off on you. And that is not the agreement, as you explained it to me.
Sonny: Diane, if kate can put off what she has to do until she gets to the office, i can do the same. There's much more important things in life than work.
Diane: Absolutely. But the world did not stop turning while you were away, and there is much to catch up on.
Kate: Ok, well, clearly diane is not going to go until you handle this. So, don't mind me.
Sonny: No, no, no. You're not going to go now, because that's not right.
Kate: Well, actually, i think it's just going to go a lot faster if i'm not here to distract you.
Max, i would love that ice tea.
Diane: Oh, and max will get it for you. Here you go.
Max: Yeah, i'll bring it out.
Kate: Ok.
[Sonny clears his throat]
sonny: What is going on?
Diane: Not a thing. Not -- we are just making plans for, you know -- for later.
Sonny: Well, what do you got to show me? Let's go. I've got things to do.
Kate: Thank you, max.
Max: So you enjoyed the island?
Kate: I did.
Max: Yeah, sometimes when you're down there with the tropical breezes blowing, and all your problems a million miles away, the real world can just seem like a dim memory.
Kate: That was very poetic and very true. That island... You know, max, i don't think i can remember taking a vacation and turning off my cell phone and my pda.I should really do that more often.
Max: So now you're back in the real world.
Kate: Yeah, so much to do.
Max: And you and the boss are as in love as ever?
Kate: More.
Max: Have you really given mrs. C. Enough thought? Oh --
[chuckles nervously] Whoops, um...
Spinelli: Truly, maximista needn't jump to the jackal's defense. He receives more attention than his worthiness would indicate.
Maxie: Don't underestimate your worthiness. If you want to talk about jason dating some slavic seductress or anyone else, you shouldn't be worried about hurting someone's overly sensitive feelings.
Elizabeth: Just try being civil. Or, better yet, not say anything at all.
Spinelli: Ok, please, ladies. Oh.
Maxie: Finally.
Spinelli: The jackal is happy to see stone cold at any hour.
Elizabeth: I was just telling spinelli that he needs rest and quiet.
Maxie: But he doesn't have to stay in bed.
Jason: We're all set.
Spinelli: The jackal is grateful for all the trouble that stone cold has gone to.
Maxie: Well, wait. How -- how are you going to take care of spinelli by yourself?
Jason: I'll manage.
Maxie: Ok.
Diane: The wording is -- is -- is very ambiguous -- is very ambiguous here. It's -- it's "can be," you know, instead of "will be."
Sonny: Are you telling me this couldn't wait?
Kate: Ok, first of all, carly, she is now mrs. J. -- Not mrs. C. Ok? And, secondly, you might want to just take this whole subject up with sonny. Ok, max, look, i am fond of you, and clearly you were worried. So let me just put your mind at ease, all right? Sonny and i took this holiday in part to put any kind of concerns on the table, and it is safe to say that this issue of carly has been put to rest.
Max: Oh, that's terrific. Really. You're going to be the new mrs. C. And no one will be the wiser. I -- no one meaning everyone will live happily ever after. As much as that's possible. I hope. It's all good.
Kate: Ok, thank you, max.
Sonny: Oh, don't mind me. What's going on here?
Kate: Max was just saying how happy he is for us.
Clarice: Yes, i know ms. Howard wants to set up a wedding cake tasting, but can we put a pin in it for now? Ms. Howard has some important decisions to make. I'll call you back when we set another date. Hello, jax.
Kate hasn't come into the office yet.
Jax: Oh, ok. Well, when you see her, tell her i dropped by.
Clarice: Of course.
Jax: Ok.
Clarice: Is there something else?
Jax: Yeah, actually. I don't appreciate the part you played in setting up my wife. I understand your first loyalty is to kate, but it just makes things a little awkward. It makes it hard for me to trust you again.
Clarice: I'm sorry, but i do owe everything to kate. And carly is not as innocent as you'd like to think.
Jax: Excuse me? You going to clarify that?
Lulu: Johnny's trial started today. I haven't been able to stop thinking about him.
Nikolas: Lulu, look. Now, i know that you think nothing will ever feel right until you can be with him again, but for your own sake don't make him, or really anyoneelse for that matter, your reason for living or holding onto your sanity.
Lulu: You say that as if i can control it.
Nikolas: Well, you could if you focus on your recovery.
Lulu: Ok, now i know -- i know that getting well is -- starts with me. You know, like drugs and alcohol, you can't do it for anybody else, but part of my recovery is about being honest. And i would be lying if i didn't say johnny is on my mind all the time, trial or no trial.
Lucky: Hey, guys.
Lulu: Hey.
Lucky: Hey, you look fantastic.
Lulu: Well i -- i'm stronger than yesterday.
Lucky: Well, that's great. Do you need anything? Maybe something from home --
lulu: How is johnny's trial going?
Scott: Your honor, ladies and gentlemen of the jury, you are looking at a blood-thirsty killer. A son of the infamous gangster, born into violence, raised in violence, and destined to wear the mantel of violence.
Ric: Special prosecutor baldwin would like for you to believe that the son should pay for the sins of the father. The only problem with that is john zacchara isn't a criminal.
Scott: John zacchara saw logan hayes as an obstacle, and what do all mobsters do? They kill the obstacles, and then they just cover it up.
Ric: Logan hayes was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, a debilitating syndrome which often manifests itself in irrational and even psychotic behavior.
Scott: Logan hayes was a patriot. After serving in iraq, he decided what else could he do for the country. So he decided to become a police officer.
Ric: He became increasingly more angry and more violent, and he took this out on the one person that he felt was his competition. Logan hayes attacked john zacchara, an attack that was so relentless, one of the men was bound to wind up dead. John zacchara had no choice but to defend himself.
jason: Come on. The doctor gave you some pain meds.
Spinelli: Yeah, the jackal laughs at pain. Usually.
Jason: Who are you trying to impress, spinelli?
Spinelli: Stone cold scorns any reliance on pharmaceuticals.
Jason: Ok, you know what? I have my reasons. That's me, you're you. You're smart, you have a future. Why are you doing this? Why are out hanging out in alleys so you can get hit by cars?
Spinelli: Jackal p.I. Was attempting to gain vital intelligence for the master.
Jason: Yeah, i'm not worth risking your life on a stakeout. You're too good for that.
Spinelli: No. I'm a hopeless wimp, ok? Something that stone cold cannot comprehend because he is a paragon of manly prowess.
Jason: Ok, i want you to tell me something. Exactly what part of my life do you want?
Spinelli: You can't seriously ask that.
Jason: Is it the laws i've broken? Is it the jail time? Is it the people i hurt? The fact that i've got to keep everybody i care about at a distance?
Spinelli: There is much about stone cold's existence that's worth --
jason: Like people wanting to kill me? Is that what appeals to you?
Spinelli: Stone cold has to look no further than right in --
jason: I use fear and intimidation on a daily basis. I mean, you don't -- you don't even see it. You're already a better person than i am.
