Friday 10/10 Part 1

Carly: Jason, what the hell's going on here?

Jason: Can I get you something, Mrs. C.?

Carly: An explanation would be nice.

Max: Uh, you know, don't go off on Jason. He's late getting out of here to pick you up because I had him go home and change. As you know, no bodyguard of mine drives a lady around wearing a t-shirt and jeans.

Diane: Mr. G., Carly has never met your father. And as Max's, Mr. Giambetti's attorney, it is my job to stay on top of these things.

[No audio]

Max: Oh, right, um -- Carly, this is Maximus Giambetti, originally of Paramus, New Jersey, more recently of Palermo -- dad, this is, uh -- this is -

Maximus: Spit it out.

Max: My girlfriend, Carly.

Carly: Your girlfriend?

Max: Oh, I'm sorry. Carly likes to be known as my little lady.

Maximus: And a beautiful lady she is. Max, I am impressed. You got one hot tamale right here.

[Knock on door]

Robin: You're awake.

Kate: Yeah, I am. Please, sit down.

Robin: Thank you.

Kate: So I understand I have you to thank.

Robin: Oh, no. No, no, no. All I did was analyze your test results. Patrick drake is the guy who you want to thank.

Kate: Ok. Well, I'll thank him, too, but, meanwhile, I'm going to be grateful to you.

Robin: Well, that's good. Maybe I can take advantage then.

Kate: Ok. How?

Robin: I know that you and I don't know each other that well, but I wanted to talk to you about something. It's about Sonny.

Olivia: You would think with all the people my cousin's got working for her, she could pay one person to maintain her car properly.

Sonny: Well, it's nice of you to take the time to do this. I mean, you know, you could always fix an engine better than most men I know.

Olivia: I know this is difficult for you, Sonny, but do you think you could at least make an attempt to stifle your rampant sexism?

Sonny: Me? What did I do?

Olivia: "Better than most men?"

Sonny: Yeah.

Olivia: Why does it got to be a competition? I learned my skills, and I applied them. Gender's got nothing to do with it.

Sonny: I didn't mean to push your button.

Olivia: Yeah, you never mean to do anything, do you?

Sonny: Well, why do you have to be so hostile? Is something bothering you?

Olivia: You don't like my attitude, you keep walking.

Sonny: No, it's just that going back to the old neighborhood triggered memories. That's all. Look, every time you would get worried, your head would be under a hood, or you would be obnoxious, kind of like you are now, so it looks like I'm two for two, right? So why don't you just go ahead and tell me what's on your mind?

Olivia: I've got no problem with that. You better be damn sure you want to hear what I got to say.

Carly: It is so nice to finally meet you. Max talks about you all the time.

Maximus and Milo: He does?

Max: I do?

Carly: Max, you know you do. Excuse me. Max is a very dangerous and powerful man, but he doesn't like to show his sensitive side. The part that loves his little lady or his father or his brother. I tell him it only makes him more attractive, not to show that to anyone else but me. Don't I, Maxie-Max?

Max: Oh -

Carly: Wow. The resemblance is really amazing.

Maximus: Nah.

Max: Nah, I don't think so really.

Carly: What do you think, Diane? Don't you think that dual power emanating from father and son is just, I don't know, breathtaking?

Milo: I don't emanate?

Max: Would you shut up?

Maximus: Hey, you don't talk to your brother like that, capisce? Mario -- he's got his mother's mug, but her heart. She serves free granola at rallies for sixties leftovers. A bunch of peace freaks.

Milo: It's Milo.

Maximus: Ok.

Carly: This suit looks so good on you. I picked it out for him.

Maximus: That's what I like, a woman who knows her job. I like it.

Carly: Yeah, just call me the little lady. What can I make you for dinner tonight, Max, huh?

Max: Oh, I can't make it. I've got to work, you know. And, uh, hey -- call the pier and make sure they're set to receive tonight's shipment, ok?

Milo: Yes, sir.

Max: Hmm.

Maximus: So how long have you two been together?

Diane: Well, I wouldn't call them lovebirds, not by any stretch of the imagination because, you know, Carly is just recently divorced -- again. And up until very recently, Max was deeply involved with one of my closest associates.

Maximus: Oh? Slipping it to the lady lawyers, too, huh? That's my boy. So it doesn't seem like you two are that serious. Why don't you and I find out what we have in common and just take it from there?

[Man speaks Russian]

Maxie: I think that they're gone.

Spinelli: Wait, wait, wait. The jackal will make sure the proverbial coast is clear.

Maxie: Oh, that's so sweet, Spinelli. Ok, protect me.

Spinelli: The destructive ones have departed.

Maxie: Oh, my -- look at this mess. Three guesses who's going to have to clean this up. Oh, maybe they're still in the hotel. I should call security.

Spinelli: Wait, wait, wait. It appears the vandals have left a missive.

Maxie: What does it say?

Spinelli: See for yourself.

Maxie: "Next time, Kate Howard dies."

Robin: I don't know how much Sonny's told you about our relationship, but we share an important history.

Kate: Well, I know that Sonny thinks the world of you, Robin. And I know there have been times that you're the only person who can get through to him.

Robin: Hmm. Well, my first love -- stone, he was like a little brother to Sonny. He was a street kid. He was a runaway and Sonny took him in, treated him like family. And then when stone was dying of aids, Sonny was there the entire time. He was right by his side, making sure that stone had everything he wanted. Everything he needed. And when stone died, it was as difficult for Sonny as it was for me. Anyway, Sonny's like family to me.

Kate: I can see why.

Robin: The whole time I've known Sonny, he's been in the mob. It wasn't just what he did. It was who he was. Until this summer. And I know that a big part of the decision to leave the mob was because of Michael's shooting, but I also know that it was because of you. But now, you know, you've been hurt and probably by some rival or enemies of Sonny's, and we all know Sonny's first instinct is to want to get revenge, but that would mean getting back into the mob. And then this whole cycle starts all over again. Until or something or somebody stops him, and I think that somebody can be you.

Kate: Robin, I understand Sonny's reasons for getting out of the mob, but that choice did not stop me from catching a bullet. Robin: So what are you saying? Are you saying that you think Sonny should go back to the mob?

Kate: No, Robin, that's what Sonny thinks he should do. The truth is, maybe I was wrong to hope that change could work. Robin, can I ask you something? Knowing everything that you know about Sonny, the pros and the cons -- if that baby you were carrying were his, would you take that secret to the grave?

Olivia: But you're as mobbed up as ever. You've been lying to Connie for months.

Sonny: I was -- [Sonny laughs]

Sonny: I was selectively honest with Kate about my involvement in the organization. I did mess up the Karpov connection. I let Kate think it was more innocent than it really was, but today I was honest with her. I'm going back. And whoever shot her is going to pay.

Olivia: The beat goes on.

Sonny: Yeah, the beat goes on. Well -

Olivia: You know what, Sonny? I'm not even judging you, ok?

Sonny: Mm-hmm?

Olivia: 'Cause I know this is who you are. It's who you've always been. I always knew something different was driving you, even when you were a kid. Other kids, they go out of their way to avoid a knock-down drag-out. You go looking for it. You always had to be the one to inspire fear and command respect, all right? And that is fine, ok? Whatever floats your boat. You can have your little world where you reign supreme, ok? Or you can have my cousin. What you cannot have is both.

Maximus: So what time are we going to dinner tonight?

Carly: Uh -

Max: Come on, dad, give my lady a little bit of room. You're making her nervous.

Maximus: Am I making you nervous?

Carly: No. Not at all.

Diane: See, I think it's a fine idea for Carly to spend some alone time with Maximus. Give you and I a chance to go over some pressing legal matters.

Carly: I -- I can't. I'm so sorry I can't go to dinner with you. I'm all ready spoken for.

Maximus: Oh, you're turning me down?

Carly: I don't want to. I don't, but, you know, I have a little boy, and I promised I'd spend the evening with him.

Maximus: That's beautiful.

Carly: Perhaps another time.

Maximus: Siguro.

Carly: Sure.

Diane: And I will walk you out, Carly.

Carly: Great.

Maximus: So what are you guys waiting for?

Max: [Stammers] I'm sorry?

Maximus: They're women. They need protection. Let's go.

Max: Hey, what you doing? Would you guard them please?

Milo: Yes, sir.

Maximus: I -- I like that Carly. Beauty. Brains. Charm. You did good, son.

Max: Thanks, dad.

Maximus: So why don't you dump Carly so she'll go out with me?

Sam: Can I just say that this has been the best couple of weeks? I want to thank you so much for taking me to the Poconos with the kids. And, finally, finally, opening up that part of your life to me.

Lucky: Well, I loved being in the cabin with you, just watching you with Cameron and Jake. You know, us all sitting together for dinner. I hope we can do it again soon.

Sam: Well, look, this is all just really new to me, you know? What we've built together. I just, you know, I never really felt like -

Lucky: What?

Sam: I don't know. I just -- I guess I never really felt like I was enough, you know, faults and all. Just the way I am.

Lucky: I know exactly what you mean. With you, I just feel like I can be myself.

Sam: Really? Because I feel the same way.

Coleman: Oh, look out, it's wild thing. How you doing?

Claudia: Ok. I hear you rent rooms here.

Coleman: Yeah. Upstairs. They're not exactly the kind of accommodations you're used to though.

Claudia: Well, that's goes without saying. But are they clean? Private? Is that too much to hope for?

Coleman: No. I think we can do a little business. In fact, I've got something available right now. Comes with its own shower. No peep holes.

Claudia: Ooh!

Coleman: Yeah. Fifty bucks a night.

Claudia: I'll take it.

Coleman: Man that was easy.

Claudia: Do you want to squabble over the price? Because, frankly, fifty bucks a night for this dump is, you know, it shouldn't be legal.

Coleman: Wasn't complaining.

Claudia: I didn't think so. Can I get a vodka rocks? Please?

Coleman: Yeah. So what do you plan on doing with that room?

Claudia: How about we upgrade to the "no questions" suite?

Coleman: I got it.

Claudia: Keep it.

Ric: Hey. Here I am, as requested.

Claudia: Hey.

Ric: It's not the location that I expected.

Claudia: Jake's is the perfect place to put you to the test.

Sonny: Kate's been shot twice already. I would do anything to keep her safe, but I can't guarantee that she's not going to get shot again, Olivia.

Olivia: This is real simple, Sonny. You want to keep Kate safe? You get out of the mob, ok? No more half-ass measures. No more deals on the side. You just get out. O-u-T.

Sonny: Been there. I've done it. Doesn't work. Renders me powerless until the next person comes along and shoots someone that I love. Without an organization, I can't properly retaliate. And that is open season for you, me, everybody. I tried to get out of the business. It's not an option. It turns out it never was.

Alexis: I'm sorry to interrupt. Hi, I'm Alexis Davis.

Olivia: Olivia Falconeri. Nice to meet you.

Sonny: What do you need?

Alexis: I'm told that you refused to give a statement about Kate's shooting beyond saying that you had nothing to do with it.

Sonny: Yeah. I don't know. I don't know anything.

Olivia: I know. I know who did it. Some Russian Guido named Karpov.

Maximus: What the hell's the problem? According to your lady lawyer, you and Carly haven't been together that long.

Max: Well, that doesn't mean you should be seeing her.

Maximus: Hey, bodyguard. Hey! What business of yours is so important you can't wait for your break?

Jason: Sorry.

Maximus: Well, don't let it happen again.

Max: Dad, about Carly, she's more fragile than she looks. Carly's not entirely over the breakup of her marriage, so that's why I've been taking things slow. And out of consideration for her feelings -

Maximus: Recently divorced women don't want to be babied. They want a man to take charge. They want someone to grab them by the hand, tell them what's what, huh? So do me a favor, son. Fix me up.

Maxie: Russian creeps just trashed the "crimson" offices. Spinelli and I could have been killed if they found us, which they didn't obviously. And now, the December issue is in danger of making press.

Spinelli: Ok, the jackal respectfully interrupts as Maximista's thoughts are colliding. And she's not making herself clear. Stone cold, comrade Karpov dispatched sinister servants to unleash mayhem on the glacier one's seat of power. They left a threatening missive in their destructive wake.

Maximus: What the hell is this? "Sesame street?"

Claudia: I never got the chance to tell you the other night what a great time I had.

Ric: Oh, yeah. What was your favorite part? The wine with lunch? The afternoon delight? Or maybe it was when your brother tried to beat the hell out of me.

Claudia: Oh, come on now. Why would I enjoy your pain, especially at this point in our relationship?

Ric: Oh, I get the feeling you're the kind of girl who likes conflict. Maybe you like to be at the center of a fight. Who knows? Maybe you just timed everything to where your brother would walk in, right at the precise moment? Oopsie.

Claudia: You did that on purpose to get me off my game.

Ric: I swear. Well, whatever works, you know. That would be a scratch. Thank you.

Claudia: Do you actually think that I set you up?

Ric: I wouldn't put it past you.

Claudia: I'm going to try really hard not be offended.

[Ric laughs]

Ric: Yeah. I'm sure you'll manage, huh?

Claudia: The thing is -- my brother's a perfect storm, under the perfect circumstances. He's nursing a broken heart. And he's very protective of his big sister.

Ric: Yeah. Especially when it comes to borderline psychotics who might mean her harm.

Ric: That's not nice. You did that just to screw me up, didn't you?

Claudia: Whatever works.

Ric: Oh, that's -

Claudia: Look, all I'm saying is, I didn't have to set you up. Johnny would have freaked out on you anyway.

Ric: So you think your brother's got something to worry about with me, huh?

Claudia: His instincts are usually right on. You could be trouble. The problem is -- I like trouble.

Patrick: Hey, um -

Robin: Hey.

Patrick: I got a confession to make.

Robin: You were listening to my conversation with Kate?

Patrick: Yeah. Are you mad?

Robin: No, I don't mind as long as you don't make a habit out of it. Besides, I didn't say anything to Kate that I wouldn't have said in front of you.

Patrick: Ok, good. Because Kate's question to you about Sonny being the father of your baby, I kind of want to talk about that for a second.

Robin: Ok. Why would you want to do that?

Patrick: Well, it's interesting. Ok, you and Kate obviously know that Sonny is a good, loving man.

Robin: Mm-hmm.

Patrick: But the truth is when you are in Sonny's world, there is a risk of danger there. And you're a woman, about to be a mother. So what do you do? Sonny has a lot of positive qualities, you know. From my account, he seems like a great father. So does that outweigh the risk of being in Sonny's world?

Robin: Are you trying to say that you don't me to be friends with Sonny anymore?

Patrick: No, I'm not saying that.

Robin: Are you afraid that this is actually Sonny's child?

Patrick: No, no.

[Robin laughs]

Robin: Well, then why are you suddenly so interested in his kids?

Olivia: So from what I understand, this Russian gangster -- Karpov I was talking about. He came to town, and he made a deal with Sonny. He wanted to get in good with all the local gangsters that were overrunning the city. Enter Sonny. The facilitator. So this deal goes bad. Sonny blows him off for something. The Karpov guy is mad. Threats get thrown in both directions. Eventually Karpov makes good on one of his threats. And my cousin gets shot.

Alexis: What did Karpov say?

Olivia: He said he was sorry about what happened to Kate. He had nothing to do with it. Yada, yada, yada. He was trying to catch his breath because Sonny was in the business of trying to beat the crap out of him.

Sonny: Olivia, why don't you tell her what I was wearing that night? I'm sure she'd love to hear that.

Olivia: Well, if I could remember I would.

Alexis: Would you be able to identify Karpov if you saw him?

Olivia: Absolutely.

Alexis: Thank you. You've been very helpful. I'm not used to that. I may need to call you in to have this put on record, if that's all right with you?

Olivia: Whatever you need.

Alexis: Thank you again.

Olivia: Mm-hmm.

Sonny: What the hell do you think you were doing?

Olivia: I'm cooperating with the authorities, helping them try to find who is responsible for my cousin getting shot. Of course, I should probably get Alexis back here and just point her straight at you. Switch to the new
