Tracy: Have you seen this man?
Bartender: Si, he's been here for a while.
Tracy: Husband?
Luke: Wife?
Spinelli: Might I offer a refreshing fruit smoothie to restore your over-burdened immune system since you did not come home last night, and I can only imagine you were working and therefore you are suffering from lack of sleep?
Jason: No.
Spinelli: Even you need a healthy blend of berries, protein, and calcium.
Jason: Okay, just not now, Spinelli. I'm working, all right?
Spinelli: You are less forthcoming than usual. Have there been more problems with Mr. Sir?
Nikolas: Hello.
Carly: Hi there. Thanks for meeting me. Sorry it was such short notice.
Nikolas: No problem. Should I assume this is about you selling me half your shares of the Metro Court?
Carly: Yes, it is.
Nikolas: So you're ready to finalize the deal?
Carly: I've given this deal some careful consideration. I have to tell you, Nikolas, this deal that you offered me, it -- it just doesn't add up.
Anthony: I understand you've been joyriding in the harbor again? This is the way you answer your father?
Johnny: I need a faster boat.
Anthony: You've got the fastest boat on the market for its size.
[Click of an empty chamber]
Maxie: Surprise!
Lulu: Um, hi.
Maxie: Hi, I'm probably not your first, second, or tenth choice for a visitor, but I should be, because I brought presents. Magazines, perfume, truffles. So that definitely makes me better than nothing, right?
Lulu: Have you seen Johnny?
Nikolas: It's not unusual for anyone to have second thoughts in any business arrangement, as you know, so I'll be happy to review anything you want. Just tell me where you'd like to begin.
Carly: Okay, first you wanted to buy out Jax for no good reason.
Nikolas: It was a whim. I told you I enjoy the view from my front terrace. I think it would be fun to own this place.
Carly: Okay, it also concerns me that you came straight to me after Jax turned you down.
Nikolas: Carly, I would have approached you no matter what Jax said. You're equal partners here. You're just as important to this hotel as he is.
Carly: How do I know you're not getting a foothold by purchasing my shares? Maybe you're trying to turn Jax and I against each other so you can knock us both out of the game and take over completely.
Nadine: Have you heard from Nikolas lately?
Elizabeth: No, not for a while. Why?
Nadine: Just wondering. Just because I haven't heard from him since he found me collapsed at the clinic.
Elizabeth: You collapsed?
Nadine: Oh, I'm fine. I just hadn't slept very well.
Elizabeth: Have you seen a doctor?
Nadine: No, it's no big deal, but totally embarrassing.
Elizabeth: Oh, so I take it you haven't told Nikolas how you really feel yet?
Nadine: It's hard to just blurt out your feelings to someone.
Elizabeth: Oh.
Nadine: Well, I guess it's not that hard. It's just, I keep blurting out the wrong thing, and then I wind up in some gigantic mess that Nikolas has to come rescue me from, and he's always so darn nice about it that I get really nervous.
Elizabeth: So now he's too nice?
Nadine: Look, things have just been really awkward since we -- you know -- and -- and I've been trying to take your advice and tell him how I really feel, but it just hasn't really worked.
Elizabeth: Why don't you just stop putting so much pressure on yourself and just let it happen?
Nadine: What do you mean?
Elizabeth: Keep it simple. I mean, why make some big declaration about it? Just find a reason to be together, and enjoy the time you have.
Nadine: Well, what kind of reason?
Elizabeth: Anything.
Jason: Sonny went after Karpov last night on his own, no guards, no backup, nothing. He'd be dead right now if Max didn't show up trying to impress his father.
Spinelli: That is most distressing.
Jason: Okay, all Sonny is thinking about right now is revenge.
Spinelli: And you disagree with his methodology?
Jason: Well, I think Sonny is either forcing Karpov or his people to retaliate, and we're not even sure Karpov is the one who shot Kate.
Spinelli: Have you tried to reason with Mr. Sir?
Jason: Yes, Spinelli, I have. The situation -- we see things differently. He wants to be aggressive. I want to hold off.
Spinelli: These troubled times call for Jackal, P.I.
Jason: No, not -- not this morning.
Spinelli: All I'm saying is that a fresh and clearly reasoned look at things may provide valuable insight.
Jason: All I'm saying is the last time Jackal, P.I. got involved, you lost your spleen.
Spinelli: I will stick to the handbook this time. I -- I will. Okay, the first step of every professional investigation is to review all the facts. Fact one, Karpov shot Kate.
Jason: No. Fact one, somebody shot Kate. We don't know who shot Kate.
Spinelli: I stand corrected. Assume nothing, section 4.5 -- never mind. Fact two, one shell was fired. Fact three, Cody found a bullet casing of Russian manufacture in the choir loft.
Jason: Yes, Kate was the target. Someone found a Russian shell case, and you think Karpov would just leave it there? If he was going to be that sloppy -- do you think he'd be that sloppy? Why wouldn't he admit it?
Spinelli: A note was left for the wounded fashionista in her office. Maybe comrade Karpov is establishing a new working style. The intruders were definitely Russian and terrifying.
Jason: Have you seen them before?
Spinelli: They were not the same ones that nearly ripped my arms from my sockets, but -- but who save from comrade Karpov and his minions would wish to threaten Mr. Sir's bride?
Johnny: What is it going to take for you to jump out of that chair and run away?
Anthony: Why don't you show your crippled old father some respect?
Johnny: I don't think you're crippled. I don't think you're paralyzed, and I don't think you were nuts all those years.
Anthony: Maybe I'm faking being sane.
Johnny: No, you're perfectly sane, which just means you're a hell of a lot more dangerous than when Trevor was keeping you locked up out here, and if going after Sonny's bride and shooting her on their wedding day was your first offensive, you must have something pretty big planned.
Anthony: Well, and you want to be part of it?
Johnny: What have I got to lose?
Anthony: You're still grieving for your nut-job girlfriend. Lulu is your blind spot, your vulnerable area. You don't think straight when you're with her. You get sloppy, and when you get sloppy, John, you get caught.
Johnny: I'm staying away from her now.
Anthony: Yeah, on doctor's orders, not because you want to. And not because you understand the kind of sacrifice running this business will require. You'll understand someday, but for now, go drive your boat around the harbor. You crash into another freighter if you want, but do not get yourself killed, because everything I'm doing now is for you.
Johnny: Maybe that's the truth, but you can't give me what I really need.
Maxie: So what kind of stuff do they have you doing? Do you walk the grounds, make potholders? They don't have you weaving baskets, do they?
Lulu: That class was full.
Maxie: Please tell me that was a joke.
Lulu: Tell me about Johnny. How is he doing?
Maxie: He misses you.
Lulu: I don't understand why he won't come to see me.
Maxie: Well, today's the first day you're allowed to have visitors.
Lulu: Oh, then he'll come by to see me today.
Maxie: I think maybe the doctors told him to leave you alone.
Lulu: Well, he doesn't have to listen to them.
Maxie: I probably shouldn't tell you this, but Johnny's not doing so well either. I was having dinner with Mac on Sunday because, of course, he still insists on doing that. You should see Robin. She's about to have the baby any day. Anyway, he told me that Johnny ran the speedboat into a freighter, but he's okay. He -- he wasn't hurt.
Lulu: Oh, that sounds like Johnny.
Maxie: Do you want me to take him a message for you?
Lulu: No, I'm not going to guilt him into coming here. If he wants to see me, he will.
[Mariachi music plays]
Luke: Hey.
Tracy: Rise and shine.
Luke: Por favor, more tequila.
Tracy: No tequila. Consider yourself back on the wagon.
Luke: Quiet -- quiet! Bum -- bum ticker, please.
Tracy: If you want to drink yourself from here to Mexico City, eating tortilla chips and pork rinds for all I care, it is no concern of mine.
Luke: Senor, mas tequila, por favor.
Tracy: No tequila. Sit down. My concern is for your daughter, Lesley Lu. Does that sound familiar?
Luke: Oh, how is my little gumdrop?
Tracy: She's not so good. Actually, she's getting more and more like her mother every day.
Luke: Oh, that's nice.
Tracy: No, Luke, it's not nice. Actually, she's in Shadybrook, across the hall from Laura.
Jason: What are you doing?
Spinelli: It's chapter 14, sections three through five. Visualize the facts. Okay, it's just like writing computer code. Every command has a name and a purpose, a cause and effect. Okay, just imagine this. Port Charles. Mr. Sir.
Jason: Sonny isn't king anymore. He took himself out of the game.
Spinelli: He still behaves like the king. He gives orders and expects you to obey them.
Jason: Okay, you know if I take action, things are going to escalate, right?
Spinelli: Okay, well, then, maybe the question is, who should Stone Cold be? Should he be the -- the brave knight, the -- the opposing black king or the white king himself?
Jason: These are chess pieces.
Spinelli: All right, fine. I'll do it. Stone Cold is the king. Yay, king. Okay, Mr. Sir is the opposing dark force, and comrade Karpov is the marauding black knight, and the fashionista is the white queen.
Jason: Okay, you know what? This is not helping at all.
Spinelli: Would you just please bear with me a little longer, please?
Jason: Fine, go.
Spinelli: Okay, so the Jackal has confirmed that comrade Karpov flew in from Moscow.
Jason: Correct, Karpov approached Sonny to act as go-between to get information.
Spinelli: All right. Oh -- okay.
Jason: What -- what is that for?
Spinelli: Well, Stone Cold was in the dark, so I --
Jason: Okay, Sonny and Karpov had a falling out. I find out about the deal, and I tell Karpov to stay away from me.
Spinelli: Back off.
Jason: And he does. And Karpov shoots Kate. Now you see, that -- this is ridiculous. Why would he shoot Kate? Sonny and Karpov had a deal that fell through months ago. Why would he take so long to retaliate? Why would he take the risk? It's to his advantage to lay low, Spinelli.
Spinelli: He's just changing strategies.
Jason: What? We have a truce.
Spinelli: Maybe he broke it.
Jason: Well, why come after me? He'd come after me, wouldn't he? Why Kate Howard?
Spinelli: I -- I cannot dispute your stone cold logic, but we cannot rule out a higher gun, a hapless pawn.
Jason: Working for who? And why leave the Russian shell casing? Why frame Karpov?
Spinelli: Sometimes error code is error code is error code.
Jason: And what the hell does that mean?
Spinelli: Well, it just means that in -- maybe in this rare occurrence, Stone Cold is overcomplicating things. Maybe -- maybe the motive is truly just revenge. Maybe Mr. Sir is right. Comrade Karpov is the one that fired the shot that felled the fashionista.
Nikolas: Would you be completely put off if I told you that this entire Metro Court idea was just to impress a woman?
Carly: I thought you said it was a whim.
Nikolas: It is. It absolutely is. But it hit me soon after Nadine mentioned that she'd never actually seen me work before.
Carly: You worked putting that clinic together. You worked very hard to make that happen.
Nikolas: I suppose I did, but so did everyone else, and she does kind of have a point. I mean, most of Cassadine holdings is -- it's old money, ancient money, actually. Most of my business is in Europe, Asia, Russia. I don't know, it's just the -- it's just the idea of waking up every morning in Port Charles and going to work that suddenly appeals to me very much.
Carly: You'll get over that quick.
Nikolas: Yeah, you may be right. But Jax -- Jax's refusal to even consider my offer makes me want it even more.
Carly: Well, I -- I guess we both have a lot to think about.
Nikolas: Yes, we do, but you can take all the time you need. But I want you to understand something. No matter what happens with this deal, I don't want you to lose your power. In fact, I'd like to help you get more. Have a good evening.
Spinelli: Fair Lulu.
Lulu: Spinelli, hi.
Spinelli: Hi. Oh, I see a visitor preceded me.
Lulu: What?
Spinelli: Someone arrived bearing gifts.
Lulu: Maxie. She brought truffles. Want some?
Spinelli: The Jackal also took the liberty of bringing a few things for fair Lulu's amusement, including volumes of poetry, Shakespeare and William Blake, a visionary and early romantic who was also an artist, a dreamer of dreams.
Lulu: I love the way you talk. I miss listening to you.
Spinelli: Yeah, I also brought some comic books, a few of my favorites with an emphasis on superheroes who are mythic and archetypal.
Lulu: Thank you.
Spinelli: Maybe I could -- I could read you a few poems, thereby providing solace and support?
Lulu: I'd like that.
Spinelli: "Tyger, tyger, burning bright, in the forests of the night what immortal hand or eye could frame thy fearful symmetry? In what distant deeps or skies burst fire of thine eyes?"
Lulu: It's like he's describing Johnny.
